OLAPLEX's core technology is a patented technology that won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, and its core is an active ingredient called a bifunctional monomer.
Simply put, OLAPLEX doesn't just coat hair with a film, nor does it simply replenish protein. Instead, it seeks out and repairs the most critical broken bonds in hair—disulfide bonds—at the molecular level.
The root of the problem: How does hair damage occur?
The internal structure of hair is like a ladder, with disulfide bonds acting as the "runners" connecting the two sides. These runners determine the hair's strength, elasticity, and shape (straight or curly).
Chemical processes such as perming, dyeing, and bleaching, as well as heat damage (from hair dryers and curling irons) and sun exposure, can cause these disulfide bond "runners" to break.
When a large number of disulfide bonds break, the hair's internal structure collapses, leading to:
brittleness and breakage
frizz and dullness
porosity, unable to retain moisture and pigment
loss of elasticity
Loss of elasticity
Frizz and dullness
Brittleness and breakage
Porosity, unable to retain moisture and pigment
OLAPLEX's solution: like a "molecular glue"
Traditional hair care products (such as protein treatments and silicone oils) only form a coating on the hair surface, temporarily filling gaps or increasing smoothness, but they cannot repair internal structural damage.
OLAPLEX's bifunctional monomer (patented ingredient: Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate) is completely different:
Step 1: Locating the Breakpoint - OLAPLEX's active molecules are extremely small, allowing them to penetrate deep into the hair cortex and precisely locate the "two ends" of broken disulfide bonds.
Step 2: Reconnecting - The two ends of this molecule act like "Velcro," reconnecting to the two ends of the broken disulfide bonds, thus repairing the broken "barrier."
This repair process is permanent because it rebuilds the hair's own structural bonds. As long as chemical agents are not used to break them again, the repair will persist.
